Off-Side Undo - January,

BBMC’s Polar Bear Run
No, there was no snow and please
don’t picture scantily clad persons
jumping into an ice lined pond. Just
clear sky’s. Well maybe partly
cloudy and clear cool air and the
great sounds of British iron
traveling into the hills northeast
of Birmingham.
Brother Clay and I boarded Ole Red
on Friday afternoon December 28,
2007 and headed out for the 2007
edition of the Birmingham British
Motor Club’s Polar Bear Run.
Up early on Saturday we headed over
to the meeting point at Barber
Motorsports Park. There was a good
size gathering that grew to over 100
various makes cars by our departure
time of 9:00am. Hot coffee and
donuts were provided and the
entrance floor of the museum was
open for viewing and warming.
Several folks were traveling sans
tops so while Clay was out of sight
I took the liberty of doing the
same. I think most of the other
travelers sans tops had the good
sense to ensure that they had a
least a little heat entering to open
compartment. I’d not taken the time
so we had a rather brisk drive thru
the mountains and valley’s.
We arrived at Anniston Alabama’s
Breman Museum at 12:00pm and found a
parking place in the lot that was
overflowing with cars of various
makes and nationalities from around
the world. After lunch, more tire
kicking and raffle we loaded up with
top in place arriving home at
8:30pm. It wasn't until the ride
home that I realized that the draft
down at my ankles was air flowing
thru the unheated heater core. Say
cold feet.
We had a great time. Ole Red ran
great and I promised myself and Clay
that I’d give the heater system some
attention prior to the 2008 Polar
Bear Run.
Thanks to Ruben Greenwood and all
the folks with the BBMC for putting
the PBR '08 together. We had a great
time.
That’s it for the opening volley for
2008.
Please make plans to join us for our
first gathering of 2008 at Salsa’s
in Clinton MS on January 19. We’ll
be finalizing our 2008 calendar and
were looking for your input.
I’m alway’s looking for submissions
to the Off-Side Undo so in 2008 if
you have great days or gray days in
or with your LBC please drop me a
line so we can share those ups and
downs.
Happy Motoring
Gene Johnston
