Off-Side Undo - April 12, 2005

I've checked with everyone that I ran into down in New Orleans and everyone made it back home from a great show held on the grounds of Delgado College March 18-19.

The Friday night reception was great company and great food as always in N.O.  Saturday was a dream come true weather wise, (more in a moment) and show quality wise.

I didn't get an exact count and haven't had a chance to check the website but there was indicated to have been about 100 cars on the field.

Pat and Barbara Cashman arrived with their Gordon Keeble and happy owners they were.  Lot's of looks and questions. I took down the B GT.  Also on hand were club members Dennis and Mary-Katherine, Jake Weaver and John Turbeville.  The out of staters also showed with David and Menda Hayen arriving from Abbeyville LA with not one, not two but three cars Gerry and Jackie Masterman also came over from Prairieville LA.  Bill and Melissa Silhan came over from Pensacola Fl with their '49 Triumph 2000.

Taking home honors were Bill and Melissa, David and Menda and yours truly.

The ride home was safe, although a little wet.  Glad I wasn't in Ole Red.....a real guppy floater sprung up south of Jackson.

Tops Down 2005 was subject to much weather speculation leading up to our original date of March 26.  With severe weather predicted the decision was made to move to the next weekend.  On April 2 a baker's dozen made their way to Rocky Springs Park on the Natchez Trace and you couldn't have asked for better weather.  Cool not cold, warm and not hot and best of all absolutely no threat of rain.

Allen Spragins is still in the mists of the rebuild on his MGB so he and Sherry brought down their brand spanking new Mini convertible for joy rides. If is was in the market that one would have to be on my short list of highly desirable toss around auto's.  Everyone had a great time blasting, no one exceeded the federally posted 50 mph I'm sure, up and down the Trace.

And if you into camping Richard Poole brought out his vintage Land Rover, complete with pop-up camper.  Lunch was had and everyone had a great time.

It's been a busy month to six weeks here in the south and lots more is coming up.

Several folks at Tops Down indicated they were going to make the show at Pensacola Beach on the weekend of April 16.  The PBCA had to move the show a few blocks away due to the visit from Ivan but otherwise indicates they'll still have the same great show.

The Walter Mitty is being held at Road Atlanta again this year, April 29 - May 1.  I and a couple of last year's group will be making the journey.  If you’re interested, give me a call. This year is being promoted as the MG vs Triumph event. I can smell the burning Castrol already.

May's calendar will be pretty busy also with the Birmingham British Motoring Club's show at the Tannehill State park on May 14 with the gathering beginning on May 13.  Last years show was super nice and this year should be even better.

The EMC's annual Drive Thru History scheduled for the next weekend May 20 thru 21. We're meeting just north of Jackson MS on the Trace and will head north where the Drive's planners Ron and Haven Stucky will show us what a chicken-catcher of the 21st century looks like and then head down to Meridian to check in on the local tourist attractions, dinner and a overnight stay.

We're attempting to get a head count for those planning to attend EMC's Drive the history.  If you didn't get your head counted at Tops Down don't feel left out.  e-mail or give me a call at (601)607 - 7021 to get in on the action.
