SHOW TIME

The season’s 1st show has come and gone and the British Motoring Club of New Orleans did one heck of a recovery job post Katrina. One hundred and twenty cars took to the field on March 25, 2006 on the campus of Delgado College for the 16th annual New Orleans British Car Day.

Several members of the EMC made the trip and brought back recognition for their efforts. Bill Silhan arrived in his recently acquired 1964 Austin Mini Wagon to take 1st place in the small sedans category separated by one spot from Pat and Barbara Cashman’s 1953 Triumph Mayflower. New member Michael Glore took a 1st place in the Lotus/Milenium Sports class in his 2005 Lotus Elise.

Other notable award winner was past Brits By The River winner David Varnardo in his 1958 MGA. The field was busy all day and it was great to visit with many friends that we hadn’t seen since last year.

The following weekend the EMC hosted our annual rite of spring at Tops Down 2006 at Rocky Springs. Twenty-five members made the event a well attended gathering as usual the food and fun was great.

Notable attendees were Jake Weaver in his 1957 Triumph TR-3 and Jim Trunzler in a recently acquired Triumph Spitfire. Keith Anderson drove down in his 1959 MGA. Al and Debbie Adams had been in town working with Keith to breath new life into their 1960 Rover P4, having to leave it in Brandon for some additional sorting. Everyone was very happy to see Al and Debbie down for a visit from Tennessee.

The very next weekend members of the EMC made a return trip to Marshall Texas to visit Gene Ponders fabulous collection of automobiles and automobile. Other area clubs sent representatives and everyone indicated that the opportunity to visit with Gene was wonderful.

That’s three weekends in a row that members of the EMC were involved in activities of one make are another.

Spring is off a running and plans are being made to continue the fast pace set so far. The weather’s been great so get out there and enjoy yourself and your LBC. And if you’re looking for additional photos from the British Car Days in New Orleans visit www.bmcno.org
