A SPRING TO REMEMBER
In the last update we were just finishing up with
the EMC's annual Tops Down ceremony and we've been
rolling along ever since.
During the weekend of April 16, 2005 EMC members and
Morgan owners Joe and Cynthia Speetjens put together
a big weekend for the Morgan Owners' Group South in
Natchez MS.
Fellow club member Terry Trovato submitted the
following write up of the weekend activities:
Joe and Cynthia Speetjens, Mal and Lana Morgan and
Merideth and I served as hosts for the annual
meeting of the Morgan Owners' Group South here in
Natchez this past weekend. Fifteen Morgans -- one
all the way from Quebec and, yes, he drove his car
-- showed up for the event.
Friday night there was a hospitality suite/welcome
reception at the Eola Hotel followed by dinner at
Natchez's newest restaurant, Center City Grill,
which is a New Orleans-styled eatery which happens
to be located in the exact center of the city.
Saturday began with a whirlwind driving tour of
antebellum homes, with stops at Elgin Plantation for
Bloody Marys and Richland Plantation for lunch. The
afternoon was free for shopping and sightseeing. At
5 p.m., the Morgan owners parked their cars on the
handsome grounds of Dunleith Plantation in front of
the mansion, where mint juleps were served. Then,
it was off to dinner at Magnolia Grill at river's
edge "under the hill" to observe the sunset.
Sunday morning, the group congregated at The Main
Street Marketplace for coffee and Beignets before
heading off to their respective destinations.
The weather was picture-perfect for the three days
and all had a great time.
Thanks for the update Terry.
Also on the weekend of April 16 John Turbeville and
Dennis and Mary Katherine Loftin make a visit to the
Pensacola Beach Bash indicating that the turn out
was great as usual with lot's of good times in the
sun. See last months BM for the update. EMC's Bill
and Melissa Silhan took top honors with the Peoples
Choice Award with their 1949 Triumph 2000 and David
and Menda Hayden were awarded 2nd in the Britannia
Closed Car with their 1973 Lotus Europa.
Congratulations guys and gals.
On the weekend of April 20 Dennis Loftin, Keith
Anderson and I made what has become our annual
partially wet trip to Atlanta for the Walter Mitty
Challenge. Keith ran across some old racing buddies
from the past and really enjoyed the visit. Keith
was shocked when he learned the amount of capital in
time and money that it now takes to be involved in
vintage racing so he'll keep his MG A street able
for the future. While at the track we also ran
across fellow members David and Menda Hayden. I
understand that David may have been bitten by the
bug? It only takes money? Oh yes and time.
Upcoming events for the EMC are the EMC's Drive Thru
History on May 21. On June 18th The Annual Jake
Weaver's tire kicking, grease slapping, paint
polishing cookout in Clinton MS is scheduled.
Latest membership count is at 41. If you haven't
signed up, there's no better time.
Hope everyone gets theirs out and about. Fine
driving weather is here.
Happy Motoring
