Club News Update - June 28, 2004

HOT....HOT....HOT  &  WET....WET....WET
AH summer in the South!

Tech Session III went off without a hitch on Saturday, June 20th at Pat and Barbara Cashman's.  Pat has the cornered the market on fan's I think and even life out in the garage area was really bearable.  Click here to see photos.

Pat recently had his Gordon Keeble returned from the paint shop with a beautiful silver coating.  He's in the process of sorting out details.  It's not long off before the club has a very rare specimen.  My history book indicates there were only 80 cars produced in the original batch with 19 in a second with a total of about 90 still in existence.

After milling about for a while efforts were concentrated on improving the running of Pat's Lotus Europa.  Richard recently relocated to the Vicksburg area, his past experience is in the Corvette field.  While most of the group recessed to air-conditioned area of the shop for food and meeting Richard continued diagnostic efforts and when we emerged he had determined the issue to be two bad plugs!  Everyone in the group, ten or so chuckled recalling last years multi hour hair-pulling and teeth gnashing over Jake Weaver's TR3 only to decide that the issue was aged plugs and OH YEAH RIGHT.  But in fact on securing of a fresh set of plugs the little Loti cranked right up.  Pat indicates it hasn't run that well in years.  He was so pleased he let several folk's take it out to cruise the hood.  It's been many a year since I've shoe horned my 6'2" frame into one of those but man what a ride.

Keith Anderson had brought a new carb synchronizing tool (toy) by and we got a lesson in carb tuning on Pat's TR3, Jim Enzman's MGB.

The recent purchaser of an MGB, Steven Bryant came on the scene with his B and posted this note on the MGB Experience of his visit with us:
"And here's a great story for you: Saturday afternoon, I was on my way to the parts store to find another fuel filter (i've determined that i need a new tank) and just a few blocks from my home, I spied a beautiful British flag hanging from the open garage door of a friend who has quite an impressive collection of various vintage British cars. Outside the garage was a beautiful early 70's MGB, chrome bumpers glinting in the sunlight. I stopped and made my way inside. My friend greeted me and introduced me to "The English Motoring Club". They asked me to drive my red 78 into the garage and began pouring over it, with their wives in the background joking about "fresh meat." I pointed out several issues that I was having a hard time figuring out. Several issues were solved quickly and simply. I had just bought a carb synchronizing tool, and I mentioned to one of the fellows that I was trying to get the nerve to try it out for the first time. My car is running great and I was afraid I'd screw it up. Keith had just taught the other fellows a lesson on synching using his new German version of a SU sync device. Needless to say, now my car is running perfectly (with the exception of the need of a new tank!) A few other questions were met with uncertainty but collectively, we figured things out. They were extremely hospitable and knowledgeable, and I will look forward to gathering again with them soon. The best part of all was the cool English ale amidst the heat of the garage!"

We hope that his initial visit with us was not too traumatic and he'll become a member of the EMC soon.
