Hot - nic
Fifteen EMC members including three in LBC’s and one in a
veggie mobile made it down to Clinton MS for Jake’s Picnic
and Tire Kicking. Pat and Barbara Cashman made it over in
the ‘64 E-type with the perpetually running cooling fan.
Mike Glore made it in one of his Loti’s and I made it down
in Ole Red. The only travesty was Ole Red’s picking up a
stray piece of angle iron on the way down and managing to
sling it up on to the right rear quarter panel. Oh well,
that’s the side that needed the work anyway. Minimal harm,
no foul. The drive was great!
John Turbeville appeared in a cloud of fried oil in his
recently converted Benz now running on the Colonel’s best
cooking oil. The installation of the conversion to veggie
oil is very neat and at 25 miles per chicken, er gallon it
looks to be a winner. Questions to John about the
cholesterol count went unanswered. Smells great John!
Pat did his usual great job on the dogs and burgers and the
sides as always were great with John’s home made chocolate
pie that was a great finisher. Thanks to John’s mother for
the sweet treat.
After the meal a brief meeting was held to cover old
business, none, and new business a little more including the
discussion of the upcoming 11th annual Brit’s By The River.
Details are in the making so don’t miss upcoming gatherings
to offer your assistance and input.
The new EMC golf shirts were unveiled and there were many
takers. Pat did a great job with the art work. We’re holding
some for pick up, a few for delivery and the balance will be
on sale at Brits By The River on September 27th so make
plans to attend.
To top off Jake’s gathering we all headed down for a visit
in Jake’s shop and a listen to a true to life ‘65 396 Vette
that has found a home. You don’t get to hear the sound of
real horsepower often and it was real treat.UUMMPPAAA...
UUMMMPAAAA..... UMMMPAA!
Car Notes: Not much to report on at the Johnston’s
household, I am working on finding a body man to repair the
quarter panel on Ole Red and Brother Clay’s reassembly
continues. The summer Dog Days are approaching and the level
of work is beginning to recede for everyone other than Dr.
Ron’s adventures in the land of The Shape of Things to Come.
See his updates in this issue of the British Marque and keep
a cool beverage nearby.
Some changes are in the works upcoming gatherings of the
EMC. The August gathering will take place at the garage of
David and Jo Anne Bailey and the November date has been
revised to Grenada MS with a visit to a garage that includes
an Allard, a Paige and other makes including some of the
MG’s from Gene Ponder’s collections.
Looks like 2008 is going to finish with some new and
interesting gatherings so make plans to join us. Here are
