Been hot...hot...hot down here in
the sunny/humid south. Early
mornings and late evenings have made
for some long days if you've had
your head under, over or around your
four wheel friend.
I've been working on the engine
re-install on Ole Red last couple of
weeks under sunny skies with
temperatures in the mid to upper
90"s and the "real feel" 105 to
110.
Jim Enzman indicates he's become the
central golf cart repairman for
South Mississippi, keeping all the
putt-putts in repair around
Eddiceton.
In our last update I forgot to
mention Joe Speetgens took a long
trip in his four wheel Morgan vs.
the 3 wheeler he recently
purchased. He's keeping details
quite but I understand he out
mileaged everyone.
Pat Cashman called in the
re-enforcement this summer reporting
a visit from across the seas:
Stuart Plant of Crowe Engineering
came into town two weeks ago. Stuart
travels all across the U.S. and
stops at your house or shop to do
his work.
While he mainly rebuilds Jaguar
engines he will do just about
whatever is
needed.
He has rebuilt two engines for me
but this time I had a number of
small
jobs to keep him busy. He and his
assistant John worked on the
Mayflower,
Princess, XK 140, Europa, and
Ferrari.
The Mayflower needed shift
linkages adjusted and a nut welded
on the
rounded off transmission drain plug.
On a test drive a freeze plug popped
out and was replaced.
Most of the other work was brake
related. Badly adjusted shoes and
rusty
pipes on the Princess, worn master
cylinder on the Jaguar and rotten
hoses
on the Ferrari.
While in Vicksburg they also
rebuilt a 4.2 E Type engine and
transmission
for another client. Stuart is a very
interesting fellow and great to talk
with. They left town and were headed
back to England where it was surely
a
lot cooler than the deep South this
time of year.
Allen Spragins has sent me photos of
the restoration that's ongoing on
his MGB. It's coming along nicely
and will definitely fill the bill as
a red one in it's rebirth.
Ron Stucky has been busy collecting
goodies for the 9th Annual Brits by
the River show to be held September
24, 2005. Pat indicates that
daughter Amanda has been putting the
finishing touches on the 2005
plaques and awards so look for
another unique design for this
year's event.
When this edition of the Off-Side
Undo hits the news stands in the
British Marque there's still time to
make your plans to attend the EMC's
Brits by the River held again this
year in conjunction with the Bowie
Festival in Vidalia LA. For more
