Club News Update - August 16, 2004

WHERE ARE THE DOG DAYS

It appears that in anticipation of the onset of Dog Days here everyone has taken to the air-conditioned environs.  Thing is we've had unusually cool weather here with anticipated morning lows in the 50's during mid-August.  Who'd ever think.

There as been some activity in the buildup to the fall car show season and the insiders with the EMC have been working hard on organizing our September 24-25th show.  But car activities 1st.

New Orleans British Car Club member Blake Sonnier and I met at fellow EMC'er Gerry Masterman's in Prairieville LA on July 24 for a tech session on Gerry's MGB GT.  When I arrived, late as usual, Blake and Gerry had already dropped the engine in but there was plenty to do. When we put the wrenches down, Gerry's wife Jackie had cooked us a fantastic dinner of fried shrimp and her special salmon cakes.  Man what a meal.  When Blake and I departed Gerry was left with some electrical and carb issues to sort out.  We reminded Gerry that there were only nine weekends left until Brits By The River and looked forward to seeing he and Jackie idling up in their GT.

Keith Anderson indicates that he's been taking advantage of the early morning coolness to drop the top on his E-Type for blast around the reservoir.  He's cleaned up some unfinished projects and is now assisting Bryce Hopkins in getting the family's BJ-8 running.  The family indicates that the car has been parked since '80 but Keith indicates that according to the tag it was last legal in '75.

David Crawford web-meister has made some updates to the site recently and it's really looking good.  Take a peek at www.msemc.org.  Despite all the work on the site he indicated he's found a little free time to work on his MGA and it's running tiptop.

Jim Enzman's still sanding and spraying promising he'll have a car in Vidalia for Brits by the River.

Barry Schmidt has been attempting a steering wheel-dectomy all week using a variety of torture devices but the last time I checked it was still stuck tight. He's hammered, sprayed and pulled to no avail.  My recommendation was heat....and a fire extinguisher.  Good luck Barry.

I joined the regulars including Keith Anderson and Dennis Loftin at Primos Restaurant on Saturday August 14 for an early morning breakfast and tire kicking.  Keith and Dennis were there in their Jag's. A Mustang, Continental a T-bird and couple of Corvettes were also in attendance for this weekly Saturday morning get together.  If you're in the Jackson area or just passing thru it's an informal good time.
