Winding Down 2005
Seems as though we're nearing the
end of a very infamous 2005
hurricane season without further
unwanted visitors into the Northern
Gulf. Please knock-on-wood if
available.
Everyone is looking forward to next
years car shows and gatherings,
taking inventory and making
adjustments.
On October 29, 2005 the South
Alabama British Car Club hosted a
day long gathering for area clubs.
In lieu of the Grand British Car
Festival they held a slightly scaled
back gathering at the usual location
on the still beautiful eastern shore
of Mobile Bay in sunny
Fairhope Alabama.
Scaled back is a somewhat misnomer
as many very nice cars came in for
the one day event.
Martha and I traveled over from the
children's place in Moss Point MS
and enjoyed the company of many
folks from Louisiana, Alabama and
Florida who had driven in for the
day.
Pat and Barbara Cashman made it down
in their Jag Mk II and 2004 Best of
Show Winner at Brits by the River,
Danny Varnardo made it over in his
1958 MGA.
Money was taken up by the SABCC for
the American Cancer Society and for
St. Margaret's Church in Bayou La
Batre an area hard hit during the
2005 Gulf Hurricanes.
The highlight of the gathering was
the hotly contested valve cover
races at this years show.
The EMC would like to thank the
SABCC for holding a great gathering
here at the end of a very tough year
for many of our fellow hobbyist.
On November 12th, Martha and I drove
up to visit with Martha's brother
Allen and
Sherry Spragins to view the newest
addition to the MG's in the EMC.
Allen has recently had their MGB
returned from a restoration at Tom
Bedenbough's Imports and Sports in
Memphis TN.
Tom's done a really nice job on the
"B". Fellow EMC'ers are looking
forward to seeing it at upcoming
events.
We did manage to slow the "B" long
enough to get Allen and Martha to
pose with the new addition.
Other folks in the news? Long time
EMC'er John Simmers appeared in the
Nov/Dec
MGB Driver magazine joining the 100k
mile club. Keep at it John, 200k
can't be far away.
It's been a rather rough year for
our hobby in the southeast with the
hurricanes or their aftermath taking
over many of our activity weekends
during the fall. Luckily for all we
survived and all look forward to
sunnier days and clearer roads in
2006.
Happy motoring
