We went, we saw and we all had a great time.
Four members and spouses of The EMC traveled to
Fairhope Alabama on October 29th for the 14th
Annual British Car Festival as guest of the
South Alabama British Car Club.
Friday night everyone had a whole lot of fun at
the legendary Friday night reception. They put
on a full meal with all the trimmings for
everyone, the bar-b-que was to make legends of.
Although the area had been host to "Ivan" about
a month earlier there was no major damage noted
in the area and the show went off without a
hitch.
The crowd was excellent and although I didn' t
get an accurate count the entery appeared to be
up to past years. There were a couple of
salvage entries...a couple of sailboats had
washed up on the shore along the parkway.
Two EMC'er placed in class: Pat and Barbara
Cashman with a 3rd place with their '56 Jag XK
140 and Jim an Faye Enzman tied for 3rd in class
with their '76 MGB.
Other notes of interest, club member Allen
Spragins took the award for longest drive from
Greenville MS. Wilbert and Jean Easom's '68 MGB
now owned by Tom Schmitz took 1st in class.
For additional info on the show check out the
SABCC from the link on our website.
Followup notes? Allen has his replacement
starter and is looking for a moment to
return his MGB to starting without a push or
pull in the very near future. I spoke to Pat
Cashman earlier this week. His knee surgery
went well and he is making plans on attending
Tech Session IV indicating that since we worked
wonders on his Lotus Europa he going to put the
fate of his TR 3 in our hands.
Other notes: Pat and Barbara did make the 8th
Annual Brits at the Renaissance Faire show in
Florence Alabama with their Gordon Keeble. They
indicated that had a great time and my
understanding was that the folks with the
Northwest Alabama British Sports Car and
Motoring Club really enjoyed having them in
attendance.
Well after an unusually mild fall it looks like
winter has decided to make it's presence known.
I've now resigned myself to driving the B GT
with only brief fair weather trips in Ole Red.
Although the heat.. heat?... in the GT
is questionable at best at least it reduces the
amount to cold air that whistles around your
head on those cold mornings. Notice I said
reduces. After having several of on or off
heater valves on MGs taking to diverting water
to the ground like an excited puppy I've learned
to only attempt the twist of the wrist under
extreme cold weather driving. So if you see me
out in either the GT or Ole Red don't laugh if I
look like Randy Parker from A Christmas
Story, I'll still be smiling under the ski mask.
Happy Motoring
